Obedience

Quotes

1) “Keep the eyes of the mission on the leaders of the Church. … We will not and… cannot lead (you) astray.” (Ballard, M. Russell. “Mission Leadership.” Adresss given at the seminar for new mission presidents, 25 June 2014.)

2) You and I are witnesses that whenever we have kept our covenants with God, especially when it was hard, He has heard our prayers of thanks for what He has already done for us and has answered our prayer for strength to endure faithfully. And more than once He has made us cheerful as well as strong. (Eyring, Henry B. “Gratitude on the Sabbath Day.” General Conference. October 2016.)

3) “He sends us a small part of that truth by the Spirit. It comes to our hearts and minds. It feels good, like the light from the sun shining through the clouds on a dark day. He sends truth line upon line, like the lines on the page of a book. Each time a line of truth comes to us, we get to choose what we will do about it. If we try hard to do what that truth requires of us, God will send more light and more truth.” (Eyring, Henry B. “A Life Founded in Light and Truth.” Devotional Address, Ensign. Jul 2001.)

4) “When we hear the counsel of the Lord expressed through the words of the President of the Church, our response should be positive and prompt…I caution you to not disregard the counsel of the President of the Church. He has spoken to you plainly. Study his words and strive to obey them. They are true and come from God. We encourage you who need to repent to go forward with faith and become clean before the Lord. Each one of you is preparing now to be a leader in the Church in the future, and we need you to be clean and faithful and true to the Lord.” (Ballard, M. Russell. “His Word Ye Shall Receive.” General Conference. April 2001.)

5) “Faith is a strong conviction about something we believe—a conviction so strong that it moves us to do things that we otherwise might not do.” (Uchtdorf, Dieter F. “Fourth Floor, Last Door.” General Conference. October 2016.)

6) “The Church of Jesus Christ always has been and always will be a missionary church.” (Bednar, David A. “Come and See It.” General Conference. October 2014.)

7) “While the duty to warn is felt especially keenly by prophets, it is a duty shared by others as well… We who have received a knowledge of the great plan of happiness—and its implementing commandments—should feel a desire to share that knowledge since it makes all the difference here and in eternity…The motivation for raising the warning voice is love—love of God and love of fellowman. To warn is to care.” (Christofferson, D. Todd. “The Voice of Warning.” General Conference. April 2017.)

8) “’Lead me, guide me, walk beside me.’ What do those words mean to you? Who comes to mind when you think of them? Have you felt the influence of righteous leaders, those disciples of Jesus Christ who have in the past and continue today to touch your life, who walk the Lord’s path with you? They may be close at home. They may be in your local congregations or speaking from the pulpit at general conference.” (Rasband, Ronald A. “Standing with the Leaders of the Church.” General Conference. April 2016.)

9) “The Holy Ghost binds us to the Lord. By divine assignment, He inspires, testifies, teaches, and prompts us to walk in the light of the Lord. We have the sacred responsibility to learn to recognize His influence in our lives and respond.” (Rasband, Ronald A. “Let the Holy Spirit Guide.” General Conference. April 2017.)

10) “We must be confident in our first promptings. Sometimes we rationalize; we wonder if we are feeling a spiritual impression or if it is just our own thoughts. When we begin to second-guess, even third-guess, our feelings—and we all have—we are dismissing the Spirit; we are questioning divine counsel…First promptings are pure inspiration from heaven. When they confirm or testify to us, we need to recognize them for what they are and never let them slip past…The Lord’s way is less obvious but requires just as immediate a response.” (Rasband, Ronald A. “Let the Holy Spirit Guide.” General Conference. April 2017.)

11) “You have the Savior of the world on your side. If you seek His help and follow His directions, how can you fail?” (Stevenson, Gary A. “Your Four Minutes.” General Conference. April 2014.)

Position Statement

Overall, the way we get back to our Heavenly Father is through Obedience. However, there's a lot of different ways that we can be obedient. We follow the prophets, the promptings we receive, the commandments, and we have the faith to show that we're doing what's right. I loved finding these quotes on Obedience. Easily, it became one of my favorite topics for this project. There's a lot of personal connection that goes on when we think about why we were obedient to something. It really all comes down to how much we trust the Lord and his plan for us. I feel like if we have obedience in the Lord, then everything else that we need should fall in place.
